NEW FLYYNESS> GRACE JONES! We so excited! This shirt has gotten sooo much play since we posted it up …20 minutes ago :) You know how you feel when you’re working on something and hit your stride and just start feeling it in your bones? Designing this was one of those times! It just started to flow and everything was JUST RIGHT! Grace Jones’ image is iconic, strong features, strong personality, strong profile,..strong shoulder pads! She is an amazing figure and I enjoyed crafting this piece and trying to embody all of those things. The design is mixed media, felt, chocolate and walnut vinyl, and zebra print double knit jersey. Great textures and depth highlighted by the Coffee colored tri-blend soft t-shirt. 

Of all the famous Chuck Brown’s, There was only 1 Godfather of Go-Go. I came to DC as a teenager having only exposed to what little go-go filtered it’s way down to southern Va. Having been here for many years now my respect for Go-Go grows continually. My appreciation for the global adoration enjoyed by Chuck Brown is even that much more deeply felt because of my hands on understanding of what it takes to be a pioneer, and succeed. This pic is my collage in memory of Mr Brown.

Going Green x The Incredible Hulk x Olu #Avengers inspired 

OHHH BLESSED MORNIN & FRAGGLE ROCK! @talenthouse and @hensoncompany are doing a “Design Artwork for Fraggle Rock” competition!! seriously this just made everything right with the world! I LOVE fraggle rock! It was my absolute favorite show, I was just looking at the complete season 2 dvd last week. If anybody knows me they know that my dreams and aspirations were and still are to be “Uncle Traveling Matt” (or maybe “Auntie Traveling Matilda” since i’m a girl… but whatever that doesn’t sound cool, so Matt it is.) Fraggle Rock shaped my formative years and is largely responsible for my career path, love of felt, 3-dimensional design, travel, color, and adventure. The great thing about Fraggle Rock as well as much of Jim Henson’s productions were the co-existence of The “Real World” with something fantastical and completely imaginative. Humans and muppets, and the humanizing effect these relationships created on characters that we know are absolutely not real yet manage to be endearingly relatable, is genius. My respect for Jim Henson runs deep and my sincerest goal is to be able to have the same kind of affect that he had on the imaginations of people of all ages and backgrounds the world over.

The Mostly Uri shirt has been a staple in The Original David collection and a must have for most of our loyal Davids. It’s so easy to throw on and goes with everything plus it’s super soft and hangs just right! I seriously think I wore mine 5 days straight (with no breaks in between). 

He’s a David » The Notorious B.I.G. Biggie was such an important movement in hip hop and rap from his delivery to his image, Christopher Wallace’s contribution is undeniable. The lyric “I make your mouthpiece obese like Della Reese” was one of my FAVORITE lines in Big’s “Long Kiss Goodnight” song off of the Life After Death album. For a while people were asking us to do a Biggie tribute tee but there are soooo many shirts out there paying homage to B.I.G. that I just shied away from doing anything. The inspiration for this came organically and pulls from other art work too. I really like the way it came out.
